Your Commitment To Your Home Business
I’ve seen so many people “make a commitment” to building a business, then as the first little obstacle comes along they quit!
In other words, their so-called commitment was nothing more than idle chatter. No substance. There was nothing there.
There was a time when this bothered me. I’ve since trained myself to pay little attention to the words people say. The thing that matters to me now is someone taking action.
If you want to be successful in this business, I strongly suggest you train yourself to be the same.
But let’s talk about what commitment really means. Let’s talk about your commitment.
Are you in or thinking about starting a business working from home? Have you or are you about to join a network marketing business? If yes, ask yourself some basic questions. And be honest with yourself.
Are you really going to do whatever it takes to achieve success? Of course I’m not talking about doing anything unethical. What I am talking about is doing the things you’re uncomfortable doing. Are you determined – and I mean really determined – to force yourself to move beyond the many obstacles, big and small, that will block your way?
Let’s look at some of those obstacles so you can answer that question truthfully.
Dealing with the negativity of those around you is a very real obstacle. You may hear a lot of negative comments, your friends will tell you to not get involved, prospects will tell you it doesn’t work, your spouse or other family members may be be unsupportive or downright hostile.
How you manage all of this negativity is a major test of your commitment. And you should know that many people who start out in this industry are crushed by it!
Even if you’re prepared for it and expect it, dealing effectively with it can be very challenging for a lot of people.
The best answer is to surround yourself with like-minded people who support you in your goals. This is an easy statement to make, but requires tremendous effort to do. But it’s critical.
And what about the time challenge?
Let’s face it, after a long day at your j.o.b., battling rush hour traffic, spending some time with your family, it can be tough to muster the energy to devote to your business. Quitting might seem like the easiest thing to do.
Like all objects, we humans tend to search for the path of least resistance. And quitting when faced with exhaustion at the end of a long day is that path. That becomes a true test of your commitment: is it strong enough to get you past those obstacles.
When you see really successful people in your business, perhaps on the stage at an event, we tend to think it was easy for them, or that they were always successful. Someone who does something well tends to make it look easy!
You must realize that they were not handed their success. They went through many tough times and faced all kinds of obstacles. The only difference between them and those who are not on the stage is this: They made firm commitments, they worked on their business every day, they attended the training, and they became leaders for their teams. In other words, they did all the things you can do and must do to reach the same level of success.
Is that how you treat your business?
Success doesn’t doesn’t just drop in your lap one day! It’s the accumulation of all your daily activities and efforts. Some large and some small. But always learning, taking action every day, being willing to fail (yes, fail!), then following that with more action. Do these things consistently and you will find the success you’re after.
